14 students and DU Professor Masum sued for the murder of Tofazza
Tofazzal Hossain, 35, was killed on September 18. Prof. Shah Md Masum, a former provost of Dhaka University's Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, and fourteen students in the hall were sued today for their roles in the incident.
The accused students are: Ahsanullah and Fazle Rabbi of mathematics; Al Hussain Sajjad of geography and environment; Wajibul Alam of oceanography; Suman Mia of soil, water, and environment; Firoz Kabir of botany; Mottakin Shakin Shah and Rashed Kamal Anik of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science; Ahmad Sultan of zoology; Yeamus Jaman of pharmacy; and Muhammad Jalal Mia, Abdus Samad, Shahriar Kabir Shovon, and Mehedi Hasan Imran of the physics department.
According to Obaydul Mia, an attorney for the complainant, Asma Akter, a 30-year-old cousin of the victim, filed the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Akteruzzaman.
Following section 205D of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the magistrate took the complainant's testimonies and halted the case's procedures since a second murder case had been filed in relation to the occurrence.
He claimed that the magistrate also scheduled a meeting for November 25 to discuss the status of the investigation into the murder case that was reported to the relevant police station.
After being detained in relation to the murder case that the DU administration had filed, the six students—Jalal, Suman, Mottakin, Ahsanullah, Sajjad, and Wajibul—confessed before a magistrate on September 20 that they were responsible for the killing.
Believing Tofazzal was a robber, a gang of DU students tortured him to death at the Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on September 18.
But according to his family, Tofazzal "lost his mind" and turned into a vagrant after his sibling and mom passed away.
Supervisor Mohammad Amanullah of the university's estate office filed a murder case against some unidentified disruptive students at Sahbagh Police Station one day after the horrible death.
From 6:30pm onwards on September 18, the college understudies tormented him, delayed for a whereas, made him walk from one building to another, bolstered him, and after that tormented him once more. The dorm specialists and proctor's office were educated, but nothing was done to halt the lynching.
By the time the college organization took Tofazzal to Shahbagh Police Station, about five hours had passed and he was scarcely breathing. Police were astounded that the authorities brought a passing on man to a police station rather than taking him to a healing center.
CCTV film appears that around 11:00pm, two understudies making a difference Tofazzal get into a vehicle of the proctor's office. The vehicle went specifically to Shahbagh Police Station.
As per Dhaka Restorative College Healing center records, Tofazzal had kicked the bucket some time recently he was taken there.
