
UIU MARINER Team Secured 1st in Asia & 5th in the World
The UIU MARINER, Bangladesh’s first-ever university team from United International University (UIU) won 5th place globally MATE ROV World Championship 2025 in the PIONEER Class.
The team also secured 1st place in Asia and was named Technical Documentation Champion. The competition was held on 17-12 June 2025 at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena, Michigan, USA and was organized by the Marine Technology Society, USA.
The Advanced Underwater Robotics and Automation (AURA) crew of United International University showcased their self-built ROV on the international stage, where each team was evaluated across eight criteria: Product Demonstration, Engineering Presentation, Technical Documentation, Marketing Display, Collaborative Mission, Company Specification, Corporate Responsibility, and Safety. UIU MARINER earned the title of Technical Documentation Champion for their outstanding submission.
UIU MARINER team has secured 5h place out of all 13 finalists and 1st among the Asian teams in the PIONEER Class in the prestigious MATE ROV World Championship 2025.
In addition to this remarkable achievement, the team won the Best Technical Documentation Team Award, scoring a perfect 81/100 in the competition. A total of 13 teams from different countries including USA, Canada, Egypt, Bangladesh and Mexico competed in the grand final of the competition in the PIONEER Class.
The team was supervised by Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Dept. of EEE, Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Muzahidul Islam, Dept. of CSE, Mr. Fahim Hafiz, Lecturer and Mr. Saifur Rahman, Lecturer, Dept. of CSE, UIU.
A team of 10 Members from the UIU participated in the competition. The team was led by Anika Tabassum Orchi (Project Manager) from Dept. of CSE and Farhan Zaman (Head of Research and Development) from Dept. of CSE, UIU.
The ‘UIU MARINER’ team has reached 5th overall and 1st in Asia with scores of 377out of 13 global finalist teams of PIONEER Class. This success is a proud moment not only for United International University but also for Bangladesh, proving that determination and talent can thrive against all odds.
