UIU MARINER qualifies for the 2026 World Championship MATE ROV Competition

The UIU MARINER team from United International University (UIU) has qualified in the 2026 MATE ROV Competition World Championship.

This is one of the most prestigious competitions for university students in the field of marine robotics. The event will be held from June 25–27, 2026, at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.

Their ROV for this season is named KARAKEN, a fitting name for a machine that the team hopes will leave its mark in the deepest waters of international competition. it can navigate underwater, accurately measure distance and depth, and send live underwater images and video.

The team hopes this will give them a strong position in international competitions. UIU Mariner’s qualification in just its second year is a testament to how quickly the team has grown and how seriously its members take the responsibility of representing Bangladesh on the world stage.

UIU Mariner has not rested on these achievements. The team has now qualified for the MATE ROV 2026 International Competition in the Explorer Class — the most advanced tier of the competition — making it the first team from Bangladesh to compete at this level. The UIU MARINER team was led by Iftekharul Islam and Sadique Hossain as Project Managers.

The team was supervised by Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Muzahidul Islam of the Department of CSE at UIU and mentored by Engr. Fahim Hafiz and Sheikh Md. Saifur Rahman of the Department of CSE, UIU.

In June 2026, the UIU MARINER team will be traveling to the Marine Institute of Memorial University, Canada to represent Bangladesh on the world stage. The support from UIU authorities will undoubtedly provide a vital boost to the team’s morale and performance in this prestigious global competition.

It is mentioned that UIU MARINER, Bangladesh’s first-ever university team from United International University (UIU), secured 5th place in the World and 1st in Asia in the PIONEER Class at the MATE ROV World Championship 2025 in Michigan, USA. The team is also the champion in the Technical Documentation segment.
