UIU Achieved Research Fund from UGC

United International University (UIU) has proudly secured funding of BDT 13 crore for three transformative research initiatives under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project, supported by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and the World Bank. 

These projects aim to address pressing national challenges in healthcare, technology, and disaster resilience through innovative research and cutting-edge solutions.

The first project, SmartAMR: Advancing Digital Healthcare with AI-driven Intelligence, led by Dr. Tahmina Foyez, Associate Prof. and Head of the Department of Pharmacy, with Dr. Ohidujjaman Tuhin, Assistant Prof. in CSE, aims to improve medical adherence, minimize prescription errors, and tackle the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance in Bangladesh.

The second project, AIMScribe: AI-Driven Scribing System with Prescription Counseling Tools, will be spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nurul Huda from the Department of CSE, with Prof. Dr. Kaled Masukur Rahman, Head of EEE. This initiative focuses on streamlining clinical documentation while ensuring safer prescriptions and empowering patients through the use of AI.

The third project, Development of a Modular System for Amphibious Disaster-Resistant Homes, led by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering, with support from Mr. Nazmus Sakib Pallab, Lecturer in Civil Engineering, seeks to design and build sustainable, disaster-resilient housing using bamboo ferrocement panels for flood-prone and vulnerable communities.

The contract signing ceremony was graced by UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, UGC Member Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, UGC Member Prof. Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman, Project Director of HEAT, along with representatives from the World Bank. From UIU, the three Sub-Project Managers (SPMs) were present, joined by Engr. Md. Abdul Moqaddem, Treasurer of UIU and Prof. Khondaker A. Mamun, Director, IRIIC and MSCSE Program, UIU.

Together, these projects embody UIU’s commitment to advancing AI-driven R&D and innovation to directly address Bangladesh’s most pressing challenges and to support projects that align with equitable healthcare, climate resilience, and technology-driven development. The Institute for Research, Innovation, Incubation & Commercialization (IRIIC), UIU has played a central role in facilitating these successes.
