SEU Pays Tribute to Language Martyrs on Int’l Mother Language Day
Southeast University (SEU) solemnly observed the Great Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day in remembrance of the martyrs of the historic Language Movement of 1952.
The university organized a Provat Feri (mourning procession), a discussion session, and a cultural program to pay tribute to the language heroes.
The Provat Feri commenced at 10:00 a.m. from the university campus gate and paraded through various roads of Tejgaon before concluding at the Shaheed Minar established on the SEU campus. Floral wreaths were placed at the Shaheed Minar on behalf of the Southeast Board of Trust, the Office of the Vice Chancellor, different faculties, administrative officials, and students.
In the discussion session, the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, delivered his speech highlighting the significance of the Language Movement in the emergence of Bangladesh. The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, the Registrar, Major General Md. Anwarul Islam, SUP, ndu, psc (Retd.), and the Convener of the program and Head of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Masud Ur Rashid, also addressed the audience.
The speakers emphasized the importance of the 1952 Language Movement in shaping the nation and urged the younger generation to learn the true history of the country and be inspired by the spirit of patriotism.
The cultural segment featured drama, recitation, dance, and musical performances presented by members of various clubs of Southeast University. Deans of different faculties, department heads, faculty members, club representatives, officials, staff, and students were present at the event.
