BRAC University welcomes Fall 2026 freshers at orientation program

BRAC University organized the Freshers’ Orientation for the Fall 2026 semester in the Merul Badda campus on 30 September 2026, welcoming newly admitted students.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar said, “Now you have to decide how you want to contribute to the world…Every journey makes you unique.”

Speaking about BRAC, he said, “This is what BRAC is all about. Reaching out to the world.” 

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Any freedom comes with the responsibility…Never hesitate to ask questions…Protect your academic integrity…use education to make a positive difference.”

Treasurer Ariful Islam said, “Amongst all private universities, we’re very proud to have the most comprehensive scholarship and financial aid schemes.”

The university is “pioneering on-campus part-time job opportunities for students effective from this semester,” he added.

Registrar Dr. David Dowland said, “This semester, we’re starting a master’s in medical physics, much needed, and a promising career route for graduates.” 

An audio-visual tribute to BRAC University Founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed and videos on the Residential Semester, health and safety and the academic and administrative leadership were shown between speeches.

Members of student club Monon sang the National Anthem and presented a song and dance performance. 

A Student Life segment covered clubs and societies, mental and physical wellbeing facilities and career planning through the Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations. 

Special recognition certificates were presented to six students.

They included Md Akheruzzaman, a pharmacy student in the 3rd semester, who won 2nd place in a poster presentation contest at Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition 2026 on showcasing his AI-based prescription verification tool.

Of the others, Navid Rahman, a computer science student in 7th semester, had become champion of Bangladesh Sports Olympiad 2026, an academic-style tournament that tests sports intellect and trivia mastery.

The rest, final year electrical and electronic engineering students Md Shahariar Hossain, Tazwar Ahmed, Shadid Al Akib and Rafin Md Abrar, are members of Team Scavenger.

The group was crowned champions of EWU RobotFest 2026 showcasing their quadruped robotic system which is capable of monitoring hazardous environments.

Freshers toured the campus with First Year Advising Team (FYAT) mentors and orientation volunteers. A concert by Blue Jeans followed. Head of Student Life Tahsina Rahman gave the opening remarks. 

The orientation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
