Advocacy meeting held in Gobindaganj

Speakers in a function here underscored the need for early identification of fistula patients and bringing them under free treatment facilities being provided by government hospitals and  LAMB Hospital in Dinajpur. 

“Fistula is one of the most serious and tragic child birth injuries. It is caused by prolonged, obstructed labor without timely access to quality medical care and results in a hole between the birth canal and the bladder and or rectum. This condition causes in continence often leading to chronic health issues, depression, social isolation and deepening poverty,’’ they also said. 

They made the comments while they were addressing an advocacy meeting on Fistula patient identification held at the conference room of Gobindaganj upazila Parishad in the district on Monday noon.  

Upazila health and family planning department arranged the function in cooperation with UNFPA Supported LAMB Hospital under ( FRRei( Elimination of Genital Fistula by Capturing , Trating, Rehabilitation and Reintegrating in Bangladesh) project.
The goal of the meeting was to share and adopt action  plan and strategies to build fistula free Gobindaganj upazila in near future. 

UNO Syeda Yasmin Sultana attended the meeting and addressed it as the chief guest while upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Masudar Rahman presided over the function. 

The function was also addressed among others by Upazila family planning officer Abdul Jalil, field officer of the LAMB hospital Dr. Shaheen Akhter, medical officer (Gynae and obs) of the health complex, upazila veterinary surgeon Dr. Shahidul Islam, upazila youth development officer Sattya Ranjan Saha and president of Gobindaganj  press club Gopal Mahanta journalist Gopal Mahanta and district facilitator of the hospital Shaririful Islam Sharif. 

UNO Syeda Yasmin Sultana in her speeches urged the health officials and staff including field level staff of LAMB Hospital to be serious and punctual more to search and identify fistula patients  to build fistula free Gobindaganj upazila. 

UHFPO Dr. Masudar Rahman in his speeches sought wholehearted cooperation of his staff and colleagues and other stakeholders of the society to attain the cherished goals of the meeting.
 
He also emphasized for strengthening the searching  activity for finding fistula patients in the upazila and to bring them under free treatment facilities of the government hospitals and upazila health complex. 

Almost all upazila level officials, town elite and invited persons attended the meeting.
