
3 development projects introduced in Gaibandha
Some 3-development projects have been introduced in the district aimed at mitigating the sufferings and sorrows of the persons to be affected during the disaster periods.
The projects would be implemented at disaster prone areas of the district with the financial support of UN’s World Food Program(WFP), Give Directly and AWO International in partnership with Gana Unnayan Kendra, a local non- government development organization that works across the country.
In order to brief the district level officials, other stakeholders and journalists here about the overall activities of the projects, a briefing session at the initiative of GUK was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here on Thursday.
DC Choudhury Muazzam Ahmed attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and ADC-General AKM Hedayetul Islam spoke at the function as the special guest.
Earlier, Assistant Coordinator of GUK, senior program manager Joya Prosad, project managers Rokon-Uddowla and Tania Tasmin briefed the participants about the overall activities of projects through power point presentation.
After presenting the information about the project, it is leant that Shock Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) project would be implanted in Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas of the district targeting 3300 people with the financial support of World Food Program (WFP).
During the tenure of the project cash support would also be provided to the disastrous people in a bid to remove their hardships caused by probable disaster particularly devastating floods.
Another component- Anticipatory Action would be implemented in Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas of the district targeting 33,000 people. WFP would provide the fund to run the component. Live skills training would also be provided to the targeted people to help them be self-dependent.
Cash support would also be ensured to the flood affected people of project command area, sources said.
The project PROOFS (Promoting Food and Nutrition Security for Climate Vulnerable Communities in Gaibandha district, Bangladesh) would be implemented at Uria and Kanchipara unions under Fulchhari upazila in the district for 4777 people with the financial support of AWO International and Aktion Deutschand Hilft. Of the targeted people, some 51 percent are Males and the rest 49 percent are females.
On the other hand the project-Randomized Control Trial Anticipatory Action (RCTAA) would be implemented in Sundarganj, Sadar, Fulchhari and Shaghata upazilas of the district for 20,000 people with the financial support of Give Directly.
The officials of the GUK and the managers of the respective projects sought wholehearted cooperation of the administration and the stakeholders of the district to make the projects successful in the project command areas.
DC Choudhury Muazzam Ahmed in his speech assured the concerned of providing all sorts of administrative help and assistance to help run the projects in the district peacefully and properly.
In open discussion, the participants gave their opinions and recommendations regarding successful implementation of the projects in the district.
A number of district level officials, stake holders, invited persons, NGO activists attended the function.
