SZRMCH urged to screen and diagnose fistula disease properly

Government service providers working at Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital were urged to screen and diagnose obstetric fistula disease properly to help the government build fistula free country by 2030.
 
“Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries. A hole between the birth canal and bladder and/or rectum, it is caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without access to timely, high-quality medical treatment. An obstetric fistula patient  has to face different problems in social and family life.

in some  families a patient is to lead her life being isolated from the family”, they also said. 

They made the comments while they were addressing a daylong workshop for Government service providers working at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital(SZRMCH), Bogura  on Diagnosis and Screening on Fistula.

The program was held at the conference room of the medical college hospital at the initiative of Gynae and Urology Department of the hospital with the financial support of Elimination of Genital Fistula by Capturing, Treating, Rehabilitation and Re integrating in Bangladesh ( FRRei) project being implemented by LAMB Hospital funded UNFPA Bangladesh. 

Director of SZRMCH Brigadier General Md. Mohsin attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest while principal of the medical college hospital Dr. Wadudul Haque presided over the ceremony. 

Dr. Almas Habib, associate professor of the college hospital, assistant professors Dr. MA Baten and Dr. Md. Mazedul Islam, and intern doctors Meherun Neeha Kabita, Mahbubul Islam Khan  Farhana Blata addressed the workshop among others.
 
chief guest in his speeches said as the obstetric fistulla disease is fully curable through surgery, he underscored the need for identifying fistula patients and bring them treatment facilities being provided by government health complex and medical college hospitals. 

He also emphasized for doing the surgery operations of the obstetric fistula patients carefully in a bid to protect the patients from infection and other complexities.
 
A total of 120 health officials of the medical college hospital, field staff of LAMB Hospital participated in the workshop.
