PM launches free Wi-Fi service at Saidpur Airport
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today inaugurated free Wi-Fi service at Saidpur Airport here as part of the government's initiative to expand digital facilities and improve public services at airports and other busy locations across the country.
The Prime Minister launched the service while returning to Dhaka this evening after concluding his visit to Dinajpur to inaugurate the nationwide programme to excavate and re-excavate rivers, canals and water bodies in the Balrampur area of Kaharole upazila.
"The Prime Minister formally inaugurated the service by scanning the Wi-Fi QR code at Saidpur Airport," Prime Minister's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly told BSS.
He said under this initiative of the government, free internet facilities will be introduced at all airports and important public establishments across the country.
The press secretary said the Prime Minister is introducing the "free public internet" service at important and busy locations nationwide as part of his party's election pledges.
Under the initiative, people will be able to use free internet services at railway stations, airports and other public places across the country, he added.
Apart from Saidpur Airport, the free Wi-Fi services have already been introduced at Cox's Bazar and Rajshahi airports, as well as at the Dhaka Airport Railway Station and Cox's Bazar Railway Station, Saleh Shibly said.
Noting that the government has launched the initiative as part of its effort to expand digital services and enhance technological facilities nationwide, he said this free Wi-Fi service will allow people to easily access the internet for exchanging information, maintaining online communication and carrying out travel-related tasks.
