UIU Received the Telecom and ICT Award 2025

In celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2025, Government of Bangladesh has honored Professor Khondaker A. Mamun, PhD of United International University (UIU) with a Prestigious Award for his extraordinary contributions towards the Telecom and ICT sector in the country. 

The award was conferred by the Post and Telecommunication Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, and presented by Mr. Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, at a ceremony in Dhaka on 17 May 2025.

The award ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries including Mr. Fayez Ahmed Tayeb, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mr. Md. Shish Haydar Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary, ICT Division, and Ms. Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Khondaker A. Mamun, PhD., Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), United International University (UIU); Founder, Advanced Intelligent Multidisciplinary System Lab (AIMS Lab), UIU & Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation and Commercialization (IRIIC), UIU, the first of its kind research-to-commercialization institute in Bangladesh, has been a driving force behind transformative technology-based solutions in Bangladesh with over 20+ years of contributions to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

With a vision to establish equitable, accessible, affordable quality healthcare for all towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Prof. Mamun founded CMED Health, a pioneering research-to-commercialize AI for health initiative transforming the healthcare landscape in Bangladesh and has the potential to scale it in other low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Through Intelligent General Practitioner (iGP), an AI-powered, patient-centered, Community Health Workers-driven model designed to deliver healthcare at doorsteps in the community, CMED has impacted 4+ million lives through the creation of digital health accounts and providing patient-centered, comprehensive preventive and primary healthcare to alleviate poverty by reducing Out-of-Pocket Health Expenditure, transforming healthcare access & quality for the 7 billion people living in these regions.

Beyond institutional leadership, Prof. Mamun is internationally recognized for his pioneering research in Brain–Computer Interfaces, assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, and adaptive educational tools that personalize learning experiences. His innovations have enhanced digital inclusion and accessibility across multiple sectors. 

On the policy front, Prof. Mamun has served as a key advisor to the Government of Bangladesh, providing strategic guidance on national AI strategy, digital health frameworks, disability policy, and inclusive education. His thought leadership continues to shape a forward-looking ICT agenda that supports Bangladesh’s ambitions within the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This recognition reflects Prof. Mamun’s enduring commitment to technological innovation, digital health inclusion, and sustainable national development. It reaffirms Bangladesh’s determination to leverage digital transformation in advancing health, education, and social equity, aligning with the broader goals of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and building a more equitable, connected, and resilient society.
