Inauguration of AI-Powered Healthcare Platform at UIU

United International University (UIU) organized a seminar on breast cancer awareness titled “From AWARE to EMPOWER” and Inauguration of the AI-based Preventive & Primary Healthcare Platform “SUSASTHO” for UIU Family on 08 October 2025 (Wednesday) at UIU campus.

The seminar focused on educating the university community about the risks associated with breast cancer, with speakers unanimously emphasizing the life-saving impact of early and periodic screening. Experts demonstrated how timely risk assessment and regular check-ups can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce mortality rates.

A major highlight was the official launch of "Susastho," a pioneering initiative for the UIU family's well-being. The solution was developed by CMED Health Ltd., a successful research-to-commercialization initiative of UIU's own Institute of Research, Innovation, Incubation, and Commercialization (IRIIC).

This integrated platform will provide all faculty, staff, and students with access to a suite of health services, including health education, personalized risk assessment, preliminary screening, telemedicine consultations, and continuous follow-ups. The platform features a dedicated dashboard for the UIU Medical Centre's doctors to proactively monitor patient health and allows the university administration to make data-driven decisions to enhance campus-wide health policies.

The event was graced by Prof Dr. M A Hai, Senior Cancer Specialist and President of Oncology Club as the Chief Guest. In his address, he shed light on the breast cancer landscape in Bangladesh and the future of oncological care.

He was joined by Special Guests Dr. Ali Nafisa, a consultant in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, and Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub, an Associate Professor of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, who discussed modern surgical techniques and the genetic predispositions to cancer. Dr. Shamima Akter, Senior Medical Officer at UIU, served as the Guest of Honor.

The program was chaired by Dr. Md. Zulfiqur Rahman, Registrar of UIU. Professor Khondaker A Mamun, Director of IRIIC at UIU and Founder of CMED Health, which collaborated on the platform, provided a live demonstration of its capabilities.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. S M Rafiqul Islam, Head of Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology at UIU, followed by a free screening camp for attendees. This initiative underscores UIU's commitment to leveraging technology to foster a proactive and health-conscious campus environment.

Faculty member of different universities, government and private administrative personnel, students, oncologists, researchers, public health experts, and other distinguished guests were present in the program.
