Three UIU Faculty Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

The three distinguished faculty members of United International University (UIU) have been featured among the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list in a joint survey by Stanford University, California, USA, and Elsevier.

Recently, the names of three faculties of UIU were published on the Top Scientists (TopSciNet) database prepared by Stanford University and Elsevier.

The UIU academics named this year are Prof. Dr. Md. Qamruzzaman, Prof. Dr. Al Sakib Khan Pathan, and Dr. Syed Masudur Rahman Dewan. The list evaluates over 210,000 scientists worldwide, using citation indicators and research impact to identify the top 2 percent in each field through career-long and single-year citation metrics like h-index, co-authorship, and citation weightings.

Prof. Dr. Md Qamruzzaman, from UIU School of Business and Economics, was recognised for his work in financial innovation, macroeconomic policy, and sustainable finance. His research often explores the interface between emerging financial technologies, economic resilience, and inclusive growth—areas of increasing importance in the developing world.

Prof. Dr. Al Sakib Khan Pathan, from UIU School of Science and Engineering, was recognised under the Information & Communication Technologies field, with subfields in Networking & Telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing. Being a widely cited researcher in computer networking, cybersecurity, and distributed systems, Prof Pathan has published numerous books and journal articles, edited volumes with international publishers, and served on the editorial boards of several indexed journals.

Dr. Syed Masudur Rahman Dewan, from UIU School of Life Sciences, has over 12,000 citations, indicating a high level of academic impact. His research focuses on vascular biology, inflammation, and pharmacology, suggesting work at the intersection of basic physiology and drug development. He has published broadly in biomedical sciences and is also collaborating across disciplines.

Vice-Chancellor of UIU Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia congratulated the faculty members. “We are proud that our faculty’s work is being recognised on a global scale,” he said. “It reinforces our vision of building a research-intensive university in Bangladesh—one that contributes meaningful knowledge to address real-world challenges.”
