Gidari union declared as child marriage, child labor free union in Gaibandha 

Gidari Union under Sadar upazila of the district has been declared as child marriage and child labor free union through active participation of the people of the union on Monday. 

In this connection, a discussion meeting was also held on the premises of the concerned UP at noon with chairman of the UP Harun-or-Rashid in the chair. 

Gaibandha area program office of World Vision Bangladesh, an international Christian, relief, development organization,  arranged the function in cooperation with the UP. 

Chairmen of Ramchandrapur UP Mosabbir Hossain, Sahapara UP Moshiur Rahman, Kuptala UP Rafiqul Islam, Kholahati UP Masum Hakkani, Ballamjhar UP Julficar Ali, panel chairman of of Ghagoa UP Md. Shofiqul Islam, administrative officer of Laxmipur UP Abdul Mottalib Akond addressed the function,  among others. 

Earlier, area program manager of World Vision Bangladesh, Gaibandha office Uttom B. Das said the community people including adult children of the union were made aware about the negative impacts of the child marriage. 

As the child marriage incident has decreased significantly in the union for conducting awareness activity to the community level, the organization and union parishad jointly took initiative to declare the union as child marriage and child labor free one.  

Accordingly, the union is declared as child marriage and child free union, he added. 

A large number of people, local elite, invited persons, NGO activists and oficials including journalists attended the function.
