Fortnight to End Violence Against Women Begins in Fulchhari
The International Fortnight for Elimination of Violence against Women ( 16 days activism against Gender based violence from November 25 to December 10 ) has begun in hard –to reach chars of Fulchhari upazila in the district on Tuesday with a call to build peaceful society through stopping all sorts of oppression against women and girls in all spheres of the society.
This years’ theme of the day was : "Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” Marking the fortnight, SKS Foundation, a non-government development organization chalked out the elaborate programmes in hard to reach Fazlupur and Fulchhari chars of the district on Tuesday under Community based Resilience, Women Empowerment and Action (CREA) Project funded by the Embassy of Sweden and supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation.
In the morning around 11am, a big rally was brought out in Fulchhari Sadar union of Fulchhari upazila in the district. A large number of women and adolescent girls took part in the rally taking posters, banners and placards inscribed with slogans against women and girls.
Then, a discussion meeting was also held on the ground of Kalurpara Govt. Primary School of the union with chief of a female group formed with the inspiration of the project Shahinur Begum in the chair. Head teacher of the school Mehedi Hasan, female group members Sabina Akhter, Anna Begum,Fulera Begum, Ojiba Begum addressed the meeting among others.
The speakers in their speeches demanded the speakers demanded prevention of domestic violence against women and girls in all fields including family, society and educational institutions, taking joint initiatives of government and private institutions to stop digital violence, making and implementing appropriate and effective laws.
In addition, the speakers highlighted various public awareness information including increasing investment in protection of sexual and reproductive health rights and called upon all to work together to prevent sexual violence against women and build a prosperous nation.
At last, a quiz and sports competition was held for the char women and girls.
Hundreds of char women and adolescent girls took part in the competition with festive mode.
